Both directions of U.S. Hwy. 90 were shut down Saturday night after state police reported three accidents involving five vehicles near Jeanerette.

Troopers with Louisiana State Police said a car was trying to cross the median of U.S. Hwy. 90 when that vehicle was hit by another, which was hit by another two vehicles and then a third.

Seven people were taken to four hospitals, troopers said. One of the injured had to be airlifted to Lafayette General Medical Center, according to KATC-TV 3.

The crash investigation remains ongoing.
