KAPLAN, La. (AP) — The 42-year-old man suspected of killing a Youngsville cyclist in a July hit-and-run has been charged in his death.

The Advertiser reports (http://bit.ly/1yilko1) Fitzpatrick Doucette (DOO'-set) was booked Wednesday with negligent homicide, hit and run and accompanying traffic violations for striking and killing Lon Lomas on La. Highway 91 July 7.

District Attorney Mike Harson's office says Doucette was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center July 20 but bonded out on $10,000 bail two days later.

Lomas, who was found dead in a ditch near Milton.

The charges likely come in wake of the finalized state police investigation, for which the district attorney's office often waits before filing charges against suspects even if they have been arrested.
