For a generation, she was the epitome of elegance and the Hollywood jet set. She was known for her glamour, her marriages, and later in life for slapping a police officer. She was Zsa Zsa Gabor. She died on Sunday at the age of 99.

Zsa Zsa was to the middle America of the 60's and 70's what the Paris Hiltons and Kardashians are today. She was exotic and elegant. Born in Budapest Hungary she parlayed a very modest music and movie career into a brand that was known worldwide.

Zsa Zsa was married at least eight times and her trademark "Dahlink" greeting was just a part of her schtick. She was often adorned with diamonds and jewellery. She lived the lifestyle of the rich and famous and was a favourite of the Hollywood gossip columnists and comedians for the many men that she married.

Zsa Zsa earned her first notoriety by winning the title of  Miss Hungary in 1936. Her star power was still going strong in the 1990s. She was the last surviving Gabor sister Her She outlived her sisters, Eva and Magda who were celebrities in their own right.

Gabor's longtime spokesperson said the cause of death was heart failure.
