A man believed to be responsible for a home break in on August 18 is now behind bars. Captain Megan Vizena with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office says 21-year-old Jamaican Jamar Major of Opelousas is accused of breaking into a home in the 100 block of Allemond Street in Arnaudville and shooting at the the victim as he woke up.

“The victim told detectives that he was sleeping when he was awakened by a gun being pointed towards his head," says Capt. Vizena. "The suspect opened fire on the victim but fortunately, he was able to escape with non-life-threatening injuries.”

Capt. Vizena says detectives found about 21 shell casings inside the home and recover the handgun allegedly used during the invasion. She says the gun was found at Major's home and the victim was able to identify him.

Major is in the St. Landry Parish jail and is being held with no bond.
