Houma Walmart Death Investigation Turned Over To FBI
HOUMA, La. (AP) — The investigation surrounding what happened before a man died in a Houma Walmart has been turned over to the FBI.
A Terrebonne Parish sheriff's spokeswoman tells The Courier the move comes on the advice of U.S. Attorney Jim Letten.
Two months have passed since the death of Randolph Bonvillian and several investigating authorities have declined to say what they believe happened.
The Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office, which is handling the autopsy, has not yet released their report to the Terrebonne Coroner's Office, which will ultimately determine cause of death.
Houma Police Chief Todd Duplantis said Bonvillian died after officers tried to subdue him. Duplantis has said an undetermined amount of meth was later found in Bonvillian's system.
Three officers involved in the scuffles were treated for sprains.
