Governor Bobby Jindal's proposed overhaul of the state's teacher tenure system has been approved by the House Education Committee. It was approved Wednesday night by a 13 to 5 vote.

The measure limits job protection to those teachers who score at the top of new evaluation standards.  Teacher salaries would be based on the same assessments, rather than being based on seniority and credentials.

The Senate Education Committee is set to debate the teacher tenure laws as well as a statewide voucher program.
