This event gives residents in the city of Lafayette and unincorporated areas of Lafayette Parish the chance to safely get rid of paint, poison, chemical cleaners, mercury and other chemicals.

Household chemical drop-off day, sponsored by Lafayette Consolidated Government's Environmental Quality Division and Allied Waste, will be from 8 a.m. to noon at the Cajun Field parking lot.

The chemical collection days have been held twice per year, in the spring and the fall, at the Cajun Field parking lot since March of 2007; chemical collection days have been conducted by city-parish government since 1993.

An average of 33 tons of chemicals and 3 tons of electronics are collected at the chemical day collections. An average of 927 vehicles come through the drop-off line at Cajun Field. The average wait time is 20 minutes.

The collection day is for households only; no businesses may drop off chemicals. For a list of items that will be accepted, click here. Workers will also be collecting computers and any other electronic devices with a chip to be recycled.
