Houston Couple Arrested In Drug Bust

A traffic stop leads to a huge drug bust in St. Martin Parish.

Major Ginny Higgins with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office says a deputy pulled over a Houston couple, Donovan Smith and his passenger Mukeyah Nichols for improper lane usage. Higgins says the deputy then smelled the overwhelming odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Higgins says the deputy then searched the vehicle and found about 50 pounds of the drug in three separate trash bags inside the trunk.

Both Smith and Nichols were arrested and transported to the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center where they were booked on the following charges:
