I have to be honest with you. I thought David Duke was dead. That's how far off of my radar the former candidate for governor and professional office seeker had fallen.

I was taken aback when I heard that Mr. Duke, who by the way is alive, was being mentioned in the same breath as some of the candidates seeking the GOP Presidential nomination. How did that come to be?

Okay let's be specific the connection with David Duke and the GOP is through Donald Trump or is it? According to Trump when asked about the endorsement of the former KKK member he says he misheard the question. He blamed his response on his inability to hear clearly on a CNN earpiece. That is why he did not disavow the endorsement from Duke.

Duke says all of the controversy is surrounding his association with the white supremacist group the Ku Klux Klan back in the 1970's. Duke told the Louisiana Radio Network how things have changed.

Does he have to get in with this? I mean he knows, I think he knows that I'm not in the KKK. I haven't been in the Klan for 40 years, it has nothing to do with the Klan.

Duke suggests in his comments that he was warned that his support of Trump would create an issue for Trump's campaign. Based on current poll numbers that doesn't appear to be the case.

They now say he has 50% of the vote and he's got more votes than all the other candidates in the race for President in the Republican Party combined.

Since Mr. Duke is not dead he is currently working as an author and political activist. He runs a website and refers to himself as Dr. David Duke. He reportedly earned his doctorate at a university in the Ukraine.  At last report he was making his home in Mandeville.
