How Ludicrous Is This? [OPINION]

Startling surveillance video shows young man urinating into a 38 million gallon reservoir so what does the water district in Portland, Oregon do? They drained the reservoir!

Is this ludicrous and wasteful or what? 38 million gallons of water wasted because the video shows a young man urinating through a metal fence and the urine may or may not have actually infiltrated the water system. What's really mind boggling is the fact that the reservoir gets drained each spring and fall...the reservoir had just been drained just three weeks before.

After the 'contaminated water' was drained it was literally flushed into the sewer system and eventually into the Columbia River. Aren't they concerned that the fish will be endangered by urine from one teenager mixed with 38 million gallons of water? The water was already treated before being piped into the reservoir Portland City bureau administrator David Shaff said,

It’s easy to replace those 38 million gallons of water, we’re not in the arid Southwest. We’re not in drought-stricken parts of Texas or Oklahoma.

Wow, just because you have 38 million gallons of water doesn't mean you should waste it. Don't these water officials realize that birds regularly roost near the water supply or fly over it? Don't the water police realize that fish also make regular deposits?

A 19-year-old was cited for public urination.

The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office will decide whether to pursue criminal charges.

I bet people in the arid Southwest or southern California would have paid to have the wasted water transported to them.

I think a little common sense would have been nice in this incident.
