HUD Takeover?

The Lafayette Housing Authority board meeting scheduled for today was cancelled by HUD officials. 

This after District Judge Ed Rubin ordered the three former board members back on the board Friday.  City Parish President Joey Durel has already appointed a new board which held a meeting a week ago.  Durel tells KPEL he's hopeful there will be a federal takeover of the LHA by HUD once HUD completes its investigation.  Durel issued this statement to KPEL news this afternoon: "I'm disappointed it's come to this.  The best thing for residents and the people of Lafayette is to have local control but because of ridiculous actions of three volunteer board members what will happen is the housing authority will be under federal jurisdiction instead of local control and it is a shame it has come to this."
