An arrest has been made about a week after 28-year-old Kimberly Nicole Perkins of Palmetto was found dead in a spillway canal near the town.

The St. Landry Parish Coroner's Office says she died from two gunshot wounds to the head. As St. Landry Sheriff's deputies investigated, they say they found she had a very contentious and abusive relationship with her husband, 52-year-old Sam Clark, Jr.

Investigators say he confessed to them that he shot her on the spillway levee bridge where he allegedly dumped her body.

He's now in the St. Landry Parish Jail on second degree murder charges. No bond has been set.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank the St. Landry Parish Detectives for their hard work, long hours and dedication to duty during the course of this investigation,” stated Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.
