Iberia Parish Sheriff's deputies had to break the window of car in the WalMart parking lot on East Admiral Doyle Drive in New Iberia to get to a 7-month-old infant left locked in a caretaker's car.

Police were called to the store regarding the child who had been left in the dangerous heat.

The owner of the car, 42-year-old Crystal Derouen, got to the scene right after police had removed the child the car.  She and the child were taken to the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office.

The baby was later turned over to its mother.

Police have booked Derouen with cruelty to a juvenile. She was later released on bond.
