Should the Iberia Parish government use part of the library system's millage for a levee project?  It's a new idea on how to fund a 26-mile levee project for the parish that voters did not approve this year.

While voters did vote in favor a 6-mill property tax to pay for the parish's library system, there is a portion of the tax that is not being used.  Only 4.5 mills are being collected for the library system.

Iberia Parish Councilman David Ditch is proposing to dedicate all or part of the remaining mills to pay for an Iberia Parish Levee, Hurricane and Conservation District.

The Iberia Council chamber is the site of a meeting about this issue scheduled for September 11.
