People irresponsibly riding their all terain vehicles (ATVs) on other people's farmlands, trespassing, has been a problem in Iberia Parish, and Sheriff Louis Ackal is putting them on notice.

Sheriff Ackal says the damage these vehicles can cause to the property and crops per individual farmer can be in the thousands of dollars.

He says people caught doing this could face charges of felony criminal damage to property, criminal trespass or other numerous charges related to this crime. He says they could be sentenced to over a year in jail and face thousands of dollars in fines.

Also, if you're caught driving on a roadway with a non-licensed vehicle will be cited and could have steep penalties or be sentenced to jail.
