Update: 16-year-old Daquentin Thompson has been identified as the inmate who Iberia Parish deputies say committed suicide, according to our news partners at KATC.

The Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office said Sunday that an inmate being held there committed suicide.

According to Sheriff Louis Ackal, the 16-year-old male inmate was found hanging in his cell after correctional officers conducted a routine check at around 11:53 p.m. Saturday. The teen was brought to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The teenager was being held in the Iberia Parish Jail after being indicted in September on charges of rape. He was ordered to stand trial as an adult, according to KATC-TV 3.

The boy was alone in his cell at the time of the incident.
