One local school system will have to dip into tobacco settlement money to pay for summer classes.

The Iberia Parish School Board unanimously agreed to take $505,000 from the fund to help pay for the classes. Students who fail the LEAP, GEE, or end-of-course testing are required to take the remedial classes.

Up until recently, the state paid for the courses, but now the school system must foot the bill.
