36-year-old Eric Dupas of Cottonport, the man accused of carjacking a UL student on September 24, 2014, is already in jail on a separate charge in Avoyelles Parish, according to Lafayette Police.

Both Lafayette Police Department warrants were forwarded to the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff's Office.  The investigation remains ongoing.

Two arrests warrants have been issued for 36 year old Eric C. Dupas of Cottonport. It's alleged that on September 24, 2014 Dupas attacked a young woman on Oak Crest Drive. The woman was forced into her car, choked and struck several times by Dupas. The victim was released a short time later and Dupas fled in the victim's car.

Last week the victim's car was found in Cottonport and detectives were able to connect Dupas to the incident based on evidence recovered in the vehicle.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Dupas is asked to call the Lafayette Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
