LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — An inmate at the Federal Correctional Complex in Oakdale has been sentenced on an assault charge.

U.S. District Judge Patricia Minaldi sentenced 28-year-old Jakegory Nakai to five years in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release for assault with a dangerous weapon.

U.S. Attorney Stephanie A. Finley tells the American Press the sentence will run consecutive to sentences Nakai is currently serving for carjacking, robbery and use of a firearm during a crime of violence.

Nakai was indicted in February for assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of a prohibited object at a federal correctional facility. He pleaded guilty to the assault charge.

Nakai allegedly produced an improvised weapon resembling a knife and stabbed other inmate in the face, chest, back and arms about 13 times.
