PORT ALLEN, La. (AP) — The West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office says an inmate who was mistakenly released from the Elayn Hunt Correctional Center is back in custody.

WAFB-TV reports Emmanuel Jones was picked up at his home in Covington by his probation officer Friday. Jones was released Thursday by Hunt Correctional where he had been serving time for conviction of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Jones had a pending charge of simple escape from West Baton Rouge and a detainer for that charge was subsequently sent to Hunt. He also had a Thursday release date on the weapons charge, but because of the detainer he should have been turned over to West Baton Rouge Parish authorities instead of being released.

The mix-up remains under investigation.
