CLINTON, La. (AP) — A state prisoner set for release did not make it home as planned after East Feliciana Parish Jail sheriff's deputies found him holding more cash than is allowed in a prison setting.

East Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Detective Don McKey tells The Advocate Louis Davis, of Paincourtville, was scheduled to be released at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, but deputies who searched his belongings about five minutes before midnight found $320 in cash.

McKey said deputies do not know for certain how Davis got the cash, although he told them he accumulated it by loaning small amounts of money to other prisoners at a high rate of interest.

Deputies also arrested the man who came to pick up Davis, Titus J. Richard, after searching his vehicle and finding a pistol and some vodka.
