Officials with the Lafayette Fire Department have made an arrest in a suspected arson investigation that occurred nearly three months ago at a Lafayette apartment complex.

Investigators determined the fire set at the Himbola Manor Apartments on Feb. 24 was set by 28-year-old Johnathon Ray Tizeno of Lafayette.

According  to Fire Department spokesperson Alton Trahan, Tizeno was charged with simple arson after breaking into the office at the apartment complex and setting fire to combustibles that caused heavy smoke damage. At the time of the arrest, Tizeno was in jail for unrelated charges.

Trahan said Tizeno's motive may have been revenge driven. He told the media, management at the apartment complex had previously banned Tizeno from the property.

The investigation is ongoing as officials are trying to determine if Tizeno acted alone in setting the fire. Anyone with information is asked to call Lafayette Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
