Lafayette Fire Department investigators have determined a residential fire on Lafayette's Main Street was set by an arsonist.

Fire department spokesman Alton Trahan said firefighters responded to the house fire at 510 East Main St. just after midnight Sunday.

When firefighters arrived, heavy flames were coming from several windows of the dwelling. Firefighters fought the blaze for twenty minutes before the flames subsided.

Trahan said the house had been vacant for about a week. No injuries were reported.

If anyone has any information, they are asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS or the Lafayette Fire Department 291-8716.
