The Jefferson Davis Parish School Board has voted to table a measure that would have eliminated art and music teachers in elementary and high schools.  The measure would not have meant the elimination of any band programs.

The measure, if approved, would have also meant that elementary French teachers and some Response to Intervention positions would have been eliminated as well.  In addition, the measure would also have made it possible for staff to get rid of other teaching positions based on the parish staffing formula.

Superintendent David Clayton said the measure, if it were approved, would have saved close to $800,000 every year by getting rid of those jobs.

Jefferson Davis School Board member Jimmy Segura asked for, and the council agreed to, a delay so they could have more time to study the idea.
