Jennings Residents Face Service Rate Increases

JENNINGS, La. (AP) — The city proposed a 10 percent rate increase for water and sewer and a 2.2 percent increase for trash collection.

The American Press reports that if the Jennings City Council approves the proposals when it meets June 24, the increases would go into effect on July 1.

Mayor Terry Duhon says the city annually adjusts the rates as part of the Consumer Price Index tied to fuel costs, salaries, insurance and other liabilities.

The increase would raise the average resident's water bill by about $4.50 a month, Duhon says. Customers who use more water would see a higher rate, he says.
