Jennings To Name Center For Slain Officer

JENNINGS, La. (AP) — The City Council is moving ahead with plans to name the city's new police training facility in honor of an officer who died in the line of duty.

Mayor Terry Duhon tells The American Press that the request to name a national guard armory for officer Burton J. LeBlanc came from Police Chief Todd D'Albor.

The armory recently came under the city's jurisdiction.

LeBlanc was fatally shot in February 2000 while responding to a call at a former police officer's home.

Also killed were retired Jennings Police Capt. and Deputy State Fire Marshal Kenny Guidry, 48, and his 32-year-old wife, Christine. Two other officers were wounded.

The gunman was former police Sgt. Phil Karam, who died in prison in 2011 while serving three consecutive life sentences for the slayings.
