Legislation that would constitutionally dedicate more money for the TOPS scholarship program by using money from the tobbaco settlement is moving along in the state legislature. One day after the senate finance committee approved the measure, the House Appropriations Committee also
supported the proposal. Governor Bobby Jindal supports the measure as well. Jindal appeared today before the House Appropriations Committee which voted 15-3 in favor of the legislation. Jindal says this is a wise investment to make sure there is enough funding for a program that educates young adults. Those who oppose the measure would rather see more dedicated dollars go to health care or early education. Representative Patricia Smith says some students don't have the opportunity to make it to college.
