Today, Governor Bobby Jindal issued an executive order that further protects sexual assault victims by hospitals and health care centers to directly bill the Crime Victims Reparation Board instead of victims for a defined list of eligible medical expenses. The order also extends the time period by which a victim of sexual assault must notify law enforcement to be eligible for reparations from 72 hours to one year. This action was brought about by the discovery that sexual assault victims were being billed for some services including rape kits.
