First-time claims for jobless benefits for the newly unemployed dropped sharply last week in Louisiana. The state Workforce Commission attributes most of the fall to the Good Friday holiday. There were 3,388 initial claims for the week ending April 23rd - down from the previous week's total of 4,077.
