First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana for the week ending Nov.19 increased from the previous week's total.

The state labor department figures released Tuesday show the initial claims rose to 4,558 from the previous week's total of 3,321. The over-the-week increase was spread throughout multiple industries. The figure was higher than it was for the comparable week a year earlier, when there were 4,293 initial claims.

The four-week moving average, which is a less volatile measure of claims, increased to 3,748 from the previous week's total of 3,416.

Continued unemployment claims claimed for the week ending Nov. 19 totaled 40,917, an increase from the previous week's total of 39,786.

The four-week moving average decreased to 40,347 from the previous week's 40,424.
