City Parish President Joey Durel is now a part of the mix on the Afternoon Drive Home.  He stopped by today to talk with us about some of the things that are ahead for the city and parish.

Durel mentioned that the State of the Parish Address is coming up this Wednesday.  Durel said,

The state of the parish gives me a chance to let people know where things are, how things are looking, where we are going, with a common sense approach.

Durel said that he is looking forward to delivering this year's version of the speech.  He reminded people that he is just a member of the public that is now serving in the role that he has.  He compared running a business and running a government and talked about the similarities.

Durel mentioned that he got some great advice when he first took the office.  Someone shared the following with him just after he was sworn in,

Run it like you own it.

Durel said that successful communities in America are where business, education and government work well together.  He also mentioned that there is a fourth thing that he will bring up in the address on Wednesday.

Durel also mentioned that Mardi Gras is coming up and how very proud of the area he is when he sees the reputation of the area spreading around the nation for having a family-friendly celebration.
