Judge Refuses To Lower Bond In Fatal Overdose Of Baton Rouge Woman
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — State Court Judge Don Johnson refused to lower the $250,000 bond of a Denham Springs man charged with murder for allegedly injecting his girlfriend with a lethal amount of heroin in July.
The ruling came after a nearly hour-long hearing on Thursday.
A day after he was indicted in the July 26 death of 19-year-old Flavia Cardenas, Jarret McCasland appeared in court to request a lower bond of about $100,000.
His defense attorney, Rodney Messina, assured the judge that the 24-year-old McCasland would live at home with his father and have a job while awaiting trial.
Johnson was not persuaded by the testimony and refused to lower the bail.
