HARAHAN, La. (AP) — Justice Department investigators will hold a public meeting June 15 in Harahan to hear about hiring and promotion practices in the city's police and fire departments, Mayor Vinny Mosca said.

The Times-Picayune reports (http://bit.ly/KgHXRC ) the session is set for 11 a.m. at City Hall.

The meeting comes two months after the Justice Department asked Harahan officials for data on employees hired, fired and promoted since 2006, broken down by race, sex and job classification.

It's part of an effort to determine whether Harahan is complying with a consent decree reached after the Justice Department sued Harahan and 39 other Louisiana municipalities over their record of hiring women and African Americans.
