Mardi Gras is in full swing.  Today on 'Mornings With Ken and Bernie' we were joined by Corporal Paul Mouton of the Lafayette Police Department to discuss Mardi Gras safety.  The Krewe of Rio Parade rolled last weekend and the barricades have been moved into a stand-by position on the roadside along the parade route.  Cpl. Mouton said,

We urge parents to refrain from placing their children on barricades to catch beads and certainly urge them to prevent their children from crawling under barricades to retrieve beads.

Mouton also urged parade goers to drink in moderation, find a designated driver and to remember it is a family friendly event.

Parade goers should remember that people come to Lafayette for Mardi Gras because it is family friendly so we will be enforcing laws pertaining to public nudity.

To keep things family friendly and especially kid friendly Mouton suggested,

If you're an adult, catch beads and give them to kids around you.  It helps make the experience memorable and re-enforces Lafayette's image.
