President Obama appointed United States Marine Corps Gen. James “Mad Dog” Mattis as commander of U.S. Central Command in the summer of 2010. He was quickly confirmed by the U.S. Senate.  Today, Mattis learned he was being replaced by a note handed to him by an aide.  Not a phone call or even a letter from the White House.
