Kenner Technician Dies In Elevator Accident

WESTWEGO, La. (AP) — Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies say a 44-year-old elevator technician died and his 25-year-old co-worker was hurt when the lift they were working on fell at the Cargill industrial plant near Westwego.

Col. John Fortunato tells The Times-Picayune Jeffrey Feucht of Kenner was pronounced dead at the scene, and Steven Steel of Slidell was taken to Interim LSU Public Hospital for treatment of moderate, non-life-threatening injuries.

Fortunato says Feucht and Steel, contract workers, were servicing an elevator about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the plant near Weswego. In the process, he says a cable snapped, and the elevator fell several feet.
