Kid Ignites A Fire

The Lafayette Fire Department was called out to the Super 8 Motel on the Northeast Evangeline Thruway this morning after a sprinkler system went off in a room.

Lafayette Fire Department Spokesman Alton Trahan says a mattress was set on fire by a six-year-old child playing with a lighter.

When the sprinklers went off, the water seeped from that one room down to the lobby area.

No other rooms were impacted, and the fire has been ruled an accident.
