This weekend downtown Lafayette will be the setting for the annual "Komen Acadiana Race For the Cure."

The event begins with a Survivors Breakfast this Saturday, March 21st, and there will be a 5K run along with a one mile fun walk.

Officials with Komen Acadiana say that 25% of funds raised through the race event go towards research, while the rest of the money is used for other purposes in the Acadiana area.

Funds raised in Acadiana, stay in Acadiana, and are used to help women get mammograms, chemotherapy medicines and therapies, along with things like rides to an appointment and wigs.

The money raised here is also used for educational purposes.

Since beginning in 1999 in Lafayette, the Acadiana Komen affiliate has raised over $1.4 million to fight breast cancer, and $1 million of that money has stayed in Acadiana for local patients.

You can register for the race by visiting www.komenacadiana.org.

We hope to see you on Saturday!
