OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi official says a Good Samaritan from Lafayette, Louisiana, was hit and killed by a heavily loaded tractor-trailer when she got out of her car to help another motorist.

Jackson County Deputy Coroner Jason Moody says 44-year-old Wendy Snelling's family had stopped to help a distressed driver Friday morning on eastbound Interstate 10 near Ocean Springs.

The Sun Herald reports that the truck was hauling at least eight cars when it hit Snellings.

Moody tells The Mississippi Press it was "a total accidental death."
