La. State Police Asked To Investigate Officer Involved Shooting In St. Martinville

The shooting happened early Saturday morning while a St. Martinville Police Officer was trying to arrest the suspect. Spokesperson Trooper Stephen Hammons says the St. Martinville Police Chief requested their involvement in the case later that morning.

Hammons says the officer was responding to a call about a suspicious person on South Main Street. Authorities say the officer found 24-year-old Terrell Simon of St. Martinville, and while trying to take him into custody, a struggle ensued. During the struggle, police say Simon tried to grab the officer’s weapon. One round was fired, but neither Simon nor the officer was shot.

After Simon was arrested, he was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries. So was the officer.

Simon has been booked into the St. Martin Parish Jail for attempted disarming of a peace officer.
