La. State Police Now Investigating Fatal Police Chase

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking for help from the State Police in investigating a police chase that ended in the death of suspected drug violator Irvian Singleton.

Police were chasing Singleton, a 44-year-old man from Morgan City, when an oncoming 2009 Nissan Altima collided Singleton’s 1995 Mercedez Benz.  Singleton’s vehicle overturned and he was pronounced dead by the St. Mary Parish Coroner. 27-year-old Ronshawna Ruffin of Vinton, the driver of the oncoming Nissan, went to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

Troopers say they don’t know yet if either driver was impaired when the crash happened; however, toxicology samples have been taken and the results are pending at the St. Mary Parish Coroner’s office.
