Trooper Stephen Hammons visited with "Mornings With Ken & Bernie" today and stressed safety in the many construction zones in Acadiana.  Hammons said "lowered speed limits are in place to protect drivers as well as construction workers".

Hammons noted that fines are escalated in most construction areas by the local jurisdictions while in other areas of the country have blanket fines.

In addition to construction zones Hammons discussed the role of Haz Mat crews.  Hammons said State Police Haz Mat crews work closely with local fire departments to expedite clean up of hazardous situations.  Accidents keep the Haz Mat crews busy as do the rising number of meth labs being discovered in the area.
