La. Student Expelled Over Facebook Photo

PLAQUEMINE, La. (AP) — Officials say an Iberville Parish school student has been expelled for taking an inappropriate picture of a classmate in a bathroom, and posting the photo on Facebook. Superintendent Ed Cancienne tells The Advocate that the mother of the victim called him late Tuesday to report the incident. Cancienne says the student is alleged to have taken the picture with his smartphone. Cancienne says the student will no longer be allowed to attend classes at the Math, Science and Arts Academy-West. The student will have the option to enroll at the Iberville Parish Alternative Center, a program for students with disciplinary problems. Iberville Parish Sheriff's Maj. Johnny Blanchard declined to specify what authorities believe took place in the school restroom, but said his office is investigating the incident.
