BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The head of a powerful state business organization says Gov. Bobby Jindal has backpedaled reforms in the oversight of local tax assessors who decide property taxes.

Dan Juneau, president of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry, says Jindal's appointees to the Louisiana Tax Commission appear to have been chosen in deference to assessors who supported Jindal in the governor's race.

In a column released Friday, Juneau said Jindal's appointees stalled reforms put in place under former Gov. Kathleen Blanco.

Juneau pointed to a recent audit that said the current tax commission has regularly approved changes that parish assessors made to homeowners' tax bills without checking their accuracy.

Jindal spokesman Sean Lansing didn't address Juneau's claims, instead saying the commission should be ensuring properties are assessed at fair market value.
