A Christmas ornament designed by Lafayette artist Tony Bernard will serve as Louisiana's official ornament for the White House tree.

Bernard and students at Copper Mill Elementary School in Zachary decorated ornaments, along with Louisiana First Lady Supriya Jindal last week at the request of the National Park Service for showcasing on the 2011 National Christmas Tree in Washington, D.C., and on the "Louisiana" tree, which stands in the same area.

One additional ornament was created for showcasing at the Louisiana Governor's Mansion.

First Lady Supriya Jindal and Bernard chose Copper Mill for the project because its school district is ranked first in the state this year.
