Lafayette Bar Owners Sue Consolidated Government Over Security Fee

A number of bar owners in downtown Lafayette are taking the city-parish government to court.

The bar owners have filed a federal lawsuit to force the scrapping of a fee imposed on their businesses to offset the cost of a weekend police detail.

They say the fee ranging from 150 dollars to five-thousand dollars a month is unconstitutional because it's imposed only on them and not other businesses in the area.
