Lafayette Board Approves School Spending Plan

The Lafayette Parish School Board met again last night to discuss spending.  The board has approved a proposed $256 million spending plan for the 2013-2014 school year.

The plan has a $3,979 surplus.

The vote to approve the measure came after discussion about salaries, instructional costs and possible spending to guard against getting rid of teaching positions.

Before the vote, school board member Hunter Beasley asked the board for assurances that the board could still adjust the budget if they wanted to before it goes up for final adoption.

Chief Financial Officer Billy Guidry says the vote Tuesday means that school board staff can compile the budget to present to the public, but members will consider it again next month before final adoption.
