37-year-old Kevin Ralph Andrus of Lafayette has pleaded guilty to stealing from his own disabled sister.

U.S. Attorney Stephanie Finley says Kevin Andrus’s sister was left incapacitated after an automobile crash. After her lawsuit was settled, Andrus admitted to stealing $1,495,078 of those settlement funds from her by transferring them to his own personal and business accounts while his sister was partially recovering from her injuries.  Finley says he did this “even though he made an oath to spend the money only on approved expenses for the benefit of his sister.”

Andrus faces 20 years in prison, three years probation and a $250,000 fine.

Sentencing has not been set yet.
