Lafayette Businessman Celebrates First July 4th As A Citizen
Downtown Lafayette business owner and entrepreneur, Gus Rezende, had a bit more to celebrate this 4th of July. After 20 years of living in the United States and working to establish his family's roots in Acadiana, he is officially a United States citizen. Rezende, who is originally from Brazil, first moved to the US on a tennis scholarship.
What may be the biggest surprise is that he has been the mind behind downtown's Uncle Sam's Jam which just celebrated its 4th year.
KATC reporter Dannielle Garcia sat down with him to talk about what his new status as "citizen" means during this very patriotic week.
It was another successful year for Uncle Sam's Jam with thousands of people turning out to watch fireworks light up the night sky.
