The Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce is pushing a plan that would make changes to Lafayette's local government.  They are recommending a change that would give council members in the city of Lafayette control over city issues.

They are calling it the "Fair and Focused Plan".  They are suggesting a separate five-member city council that would be within the larger nine member Lafayette City Parish Council.

The five members that are made up of mostly city districts would have the power to determine city-specific issues.  These issues would be things that would involving fire and police or Lafayette's Utilities system.

Chamber Vice President Bruce Conque says the plan will allow the city council to focus on specific Lafayette issues.  Conque will join "Mornings With Ken & Bernie" this Thursday morning at 7:30 to discuss these issues.  Your questions and comments will be accepted at 232-1542.

The new plan would need approval of at least five of the current council members.
